Learn to meditate – meditation is the perfect antidote to the stresses of modern life.
The twenty-first century is here, and as Mark Manson put it, we are living in the attention economy.
Every moment of every day, we face an uphill battle to process huge amounts of information, to attend to every demand on our time.
Work, our relationships, family, the business of everyday living – it can become relentless.
We’re living a super-modern lifestyle with a nervous system that evolved in a much less information-rich environment.
The result is often overwhelming.
Excessive feelings of stress, anxiety, sadness and anger are all too common for many of us.
Our monkey-minds take over and we struggle in a sea of thoughts and worries, circling around and around.
We exist in a heightened state of readiness to act. Our “fight or flight” response is continuously active.
For many of us, mental toil is accompanied by physical symptoms such as chronic health issues.
It often feels like we spend all our time doing the things we have to, and not the things we want to.
We find it hard to find space in the day that is truly ours.
We “tick all the boxes” of a successful life – working hard at a job, perhaps paying the mortgage, maybe even kids – but we still wonder if there is something more.
We want to know if there is a way to create a life where we give rather than take. But we’re so preoccupied by the demands on our attention that we can’t see the answers.
The wonderful news is that meditation can help with all of these problems.
Mindfulness meditation is a simple practice that can be learned in a relatively short space of time and has scientifically demonstrated benefits for a variety of problems, including
- blood pressure issues
- immune function
- even inner peace!
I consider myself a mindfulness success story, having used meditation to help myself through periods of intense anxiety, and for granting me the clarity to create the life I now live – a life in which sharing the benefits of mindfulness practices by teaching meditation is one of my core activities!
I am currently teaching meditation on a drop-in basis at a number of Sydney studios. Check out my schedule page to find out more!
